FROM STAFF REPORTS
Iredell County Sheriff’s Office investigators on Friday responded to Third Creek Middle School after resource officers at the school were notified of possible threats of violence being posted on social media.
The social media posts were also being shared by students at other Iredell-Statesville Schools as well, Sheriff Darren Campbell said in a news release.
ICSO threat assessment detectives interviewed several students and administration members and detectives determined that social media posts had originated in another state, Campbell said.
The sheriff said the ICSO takes every threat of violence seriously and will investigate all threats.
“We encourage parents to speak to their children regarding social media safety and the consequences of making threats of violence,” Campbell said. “We would like to remind students, parents, and staff to continue to report threats to our schools. Information and tips can be submitted anonymously through the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Mobile App or Facebook page, as well as our website as well as Iredell County Crime Stoppers.”
