FROM STAFF REPORTS

NASCAR driver Cody Ware faces a felony charge following an investigation by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

Ware, 27, was arrested Monday and charged with felony assault by strangulation inflicting serious injury and misdemeanor assault on a female.

His bond was set at $3,000.

Details of the incident that led to his arrest have not been released.

Rick Ware Racing announced Saturday that Ware, who lives in Mooresville, would step away from racing “to focus on a personal matter.” The race team is owned by Cody Ware’s father.

A native of Greensboro, Ware has commented previously on social media about his struggles with depression and anxiety. He also shared that he has been diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome, a milder form of autism characterized by difficulties with social interaction.

Ware has raced in the NASCAR Cup Series since 2017. He is ranked 31st in the latest Cup Series standings. In nearly 100 career starts, his best finish is sixth in the 2022 Coke Zero Sugar 400.
