Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrests of Manuel Mendoza, 31, and Santiago Mendoza, 45, both of Florence Avenue, Charlotte, in a news release Thursday.

On June 12, Deputy B. Von Letkemann was dispatched to the area of Scotts Creek Road and Forest Creek Road in reference to a suspicious vehicle, the sheriff said.

The deputy determined that the suspicious vehicle matched the description of a vehicle used in the theft of materials from construction sites, according to the news release.

Detective E. McNeely and Detective R. Olsen arrived on the scene and began speaking with Manuel Medoza and Santiago Mendoza. The men claimed that they had permission to have the items from the construction site, but the detectives determined that had stolen the items, Campbell said.

Both men were arrested and charged with two counts of Felony Breaking and Entering and two counts of Felony Larceny after Breaking and Entering.

Detective McNeely brought both suspects before Magistrate Thompson, who issued a $30,000 secured bond on the charges.

Detectives gathered more evidence that linked both individuals to the Breaking and Enterings reported in May, which led to both men being charged with one count of Felony Breaking and Entering, one count of Larceny after Breaking and Entering, and two counts of Felony Larceny.

Both men were also given an additional $15,000 secured bond.
