FROM STAFF REPORTS
A 3-year-old boy was fatally wounded by an older sibling who found a loaded gun in the family’s vehicle at their home off Fort Dobbs Road near Statesville on Thursday afternoon, according to Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell.
Deputies responded to a residence in the 100 block of Fort Dobbs Road in response to a report that a child had been shot around 4:30 p.m.
A neighbor was performing CPR on the child when the first deputy arrived on the scene within a minute of being dispatched, Campbell said.
The deputy continued life-saving efforts until Iredell County EMS personnel arrived and transported the child to Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
The child was pronounced dead at 8:32 p.m., Campbell said.
The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting.

Prayers for the family especially the sibling that has to live with the Burden! GOD be with them!
I feel sorry and my heart aches for families who lose children, but why did the parents leave the children in the car with the gun loaded? I don’t understand that knowing that children are very explorative. I think the parents need to be held accountable because that child is too young to know what he was really doing.
