Congressman Patrick McHenry announced Thursday that South Iredell High School student Thea Tsucalas is the winner of 2023 Congressional Art Competition for her work, “Newspaper Chicken.”
Thea, a sophomore, is the daughter of Jonathan and Erin Tsucalas.
“It is my privilege to recognize Thea for her creativity and vision,” said McHenry. “I am proud to have her artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol, representing the 10th District. Congratulations to Thea on this tremendous achievement. I look forward to welcoming her to Washington for the Congressional Art Competition Reception in June.”
Thea’s artwork will be prominently displayed in the U.S. Capitol alongside the winning pieces from each Congressional district, and she will be invited to attend the Congressional Art Competition Reception in Washington, D.C.
The Congressional Art Competition is a privately-funded competition with support from the Congressional Institute. Since the competition began in 1982, over 650,000 high school students have participated in the competition.
