Kyle Lang Houston, 32, of Brookshire Lane, Statesville, is charged with two counts of statutory sex offense with a child by an adult and three counts of taking indecent liberties with a child. He was being held in the Iredell County Detention Center in lieu of a $500,000 bond.

The SPD began investigating after receiving a report on January 23 concerning a child who had been sexually assaulted, police said.

The 11-year-old child was interviewed at the Dove House Children’s Advocacy Center, where she disclosed the sexual assaults, according to the SPD.

The case was assigned to Cpl. Amy Dyson, who continued the investigation.

The alleged sexual assaults occurred between July and October of 2022, Dyson said.

The SPD and State Bureau of Investigation executed a search warrant at Houston’s townhome on Thursday and obtained additional evidence.

Each of the statutory sex offense charges is punishable by a minimum mandatory sentence of 300 months in state prison.

Houston finished fourth out of five candidates in the 2017 Statesville mayoral election, garnering 12.49 percent of the vote. In 2019, he finished fourth in a four-candidate race for the Ward 4 seat on city council with 11.16 percent of the vote.

An insurance agent, Houston also hosts a weekly radio show, “Houston’s Solutions,” on WSIC Radio.
