A Statesville man was injured Tuesday when he was struck by a vehicle while walking along Turnersburg Highway.
Statesville Police Department officers responded to a report of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle near the intersection of Turnersburg Highway and Northpointe Boulevard about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
The vehicle involved was traveling north on Turnersburg Highway in the outside lane of travel when a sideview mirror struck Kenneth Basil Stewart, 34, of Statesville as he was walking on the side of the roadway, according to an SPD news release.
Stewart was transported to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem for treatment of his injuries. He underwent surgery Wednesday, police said.
The SPD Traffic Division is conducting an investigation.
The driver of the vehicle was a juvenile with a valid driver’s license. No charges have been filed.
Anyone with information about this crash is asked to contact the SPD at 704-878-3406.
It’s a wonder it doesn’t happen every day. The busiest traffic area in Statesville and no sidewalks from Wendy’s to Lowes and some stretches on the east side of Turnersburg Road. It was previously planned. “City of Progress”???
Statesville needs sidewalks all over the city.
Sidewalks needed. Now a man is injured and a young driver traumatized. With all the millons being spent a short sidewalk is a cheap way to save lives.
