The Statesville Police Department is investigating a motor vehicle crash that occurred on Shelton Avenue on Saturday and resulted in several people being transported to area hospitals.

Officers responded the the scene of the crash on Shelton Avenue near W. Raleigh Avenue around 10:19 a.m., according to an SPD news release.

Upon arrival, officers found emergency medical personnel already on the scene, providing aid to the injured people.

The SPD’s Traffic Division also responded and began an investigation into the incident crash.

According to a preliminary report, a gray Honda Pilot was traveling north on Shelton Avenue and came to a stop to yield to oncoming traffic and the driver signaled to turn into 1386 Shelton Avenue, police said.

Subsequently, the driver of a white Buick Enclave, which was traveling behind the Honda, failed to slow down and the Buick collided with the rear of the Honda as it attempted to make a left turn into the parking lot, according to the news release.

The impact from the Buick caused driver of the Honda to lose control, and the vehicle struck two vehicles parked in the parking lot of 1386 Shelton Avenue, police said.

At the time of the collision, the Honda was occupied by three adults and four children.

Three of the children, along with their mother, were transported to Brenner Children’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Additionally, two adults and an 18-month-old child were taken to Iredell Memorial Hospital for medical treatment. The driver of the Buick was also transported to Iredell Memorial Hospital for medical care.

According to the SPD, none of the injuries was life threatening.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing. The Statesville Police Department urges anyone with information about the collision to contact the department.
