FROM STAFF REPORTS
A Salisbury man faces felony charges in connection with the kidnapping of a child and theft of a motor vehicle that occurred Friday morning in Statesville.
The Statesville Police Department announced the arrest of Carson Dennis Tate III, 18, of South Main Street, Salisbury, in a news release Saturday.
SPD officers responded to a call reporting the larceny of a motor vehicle in the 2000 block of Tara’s Trace Drive about 7:50 a.m. Friday, police said. Officers were advised that a 10 year-old child was sitting in the rear passenger seat when the theft occurred. The child escaped before the vehicle left the neighborhood and returned home on foot, according to the news release.
Officers located the stolen vehicle traveling east on Davie Avenue and conducted a traffic stop.
Tate, who was the only occupant in the vehicle, was taken into custody. He was in possession of a firearm, which was seized by officers, according to the news release.
Tate was taken before a magistrate, where he was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, kidnapping, possession of concealed firearm, and resist or obstruct an officer.
Tate was issued a $25,000 secured bond. He was being held in the Iredell County Detention Center on Saturday morning.
He’s a good boy. He goes to church every Sunday with his grandmother.
Not this Sunday.
You don’t know what he does or what he believes. He has a family that knows what he has in his heart.
Yeah , committing felonies.
You are just being racist. He does good things for his church. He helps the elders with Sunday service.
