A Statesville High School coach has been charged with assault following an investigation by the school’s resource officer.
An 18-year-old student told a school administrator and the SRO that she was assaulted by Greyhounds women’s soccer coach Shanna Evans following a home game on March 29, according to a Statesville Police Department news release.
The school resource officer began an investigation. The coach and student were interviewed, and the SRO also viewed a video of the incident, according to the news release.
As a result of the investigation, the officer determined there was probable cause to charge Evans, 43, of Statesville with simple misdemeanor assault.
The coach was served with a criminal summons for simple assault on April 21.
Iredell-Statesville Schools officials placed Evans on administrative leave last week. Her employment with the district was limited to coaching women’s soccer, officials said.
Evans has served as a contract substitute teacher through Education Staffing Solutions (ESS), but she is not working in any capacity in any I-SS schools at this time, officials added.
