The Statesville Community Black History Celebration is scheduled for Saturday, February 11, at the Unity Center.

There will be several presentations, recitals, dancing, singing, a dramatization and an African Fashion Show. The program is sponsored by Statesville Branch NAACP #5454, City Community Planning Committee, Juneteenth Committee, several faith-based organizations and Iredell-Statesville Schools.

Among the highlights are the presentation of a Black History Month Proclamation by Statesville Mayor Costi Kutteh and a keynote address by William Thunderburk.

The event begins at 5 p.m. The Unity Center is located at 1145 Salisbury Road in Statesville.

Entertainment

The entertainment lineup includes performances by the Boys & Girls Club Little Dancers, a skit by Xavier Zsarmani and Crew, the Statesville High Chorus, the East Iredell Middle School Band, the Juneteenth Community Choir, and an African Fashion Show. 

Exhibits

Several nonprofits will have representatives at the event, including Speak Life and Live, Angel Wings, Men of Valor, Aftershock, Truth Girlz, Boys & Girls Club of the Piedmont, and Iredell Crosby Scholars.

Owners of several Black-owned businesses in Iredell County will be recognized, including Phifer’s Hot Wings & Bar-B-Q (Ted and Synetta Raye), Lewis Taxi (Houston Lewis), Rutledge and Bigham Mortuary (Bernardeane Moten), Mane Expressions (Francis Houston), Turner’s Landscaping (Sean and Raymond Turner), Byers & Sons (Leonard and Helen Byers), Action Jackson Lawn and Landscaping (Jed Jackson), Campbell Trucking Company (Timothy Campbell), Xavier’s Barbershop  (Xavier Zsarmani), Skinner’s (Margaret Skinner)
