A Statesville teen has been sentenced to a minimum of 20 years in prison in connection with the shooting death of a 39-year-old man.
Cameron Javon Speaks was arrested by Statesville police officers on January 18, 2021, in connection with the slaying of Cristean Lee Colon, who was found dead from a gunshot wound at 1415 Rolling Lane two days earlier.
On Wednesday, Iredell County Superior Court Judge Joseph Crosswhite sentenced Speaks, who was 14 years old at the time of the shooting, to 240 to 300 months in prison for Second-Degree Murder and 31 to 50 months for Discharging a Weapon into an Occupied Dwelling. He will be placed on 36 months supervised probation once he completes his prison sentence.
The Statesville Police Department expressed its gratitude to District Attorney Sarah Kirkman and her staff for their hard work and diligence in obtaining justice for the victim’s family.
