FROM STAFF REPORTS
A western Iredell County resident faces several charges in connection with an incident on Old Mountain Road in which two students were nearly struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the street to get on their school bus on Thursday morning.
The N.C. Highway Patrol has charged Joseph Graham Padgett, 35, of Bethlehem Road, Statesville, with passing a stopped school bus, reckless driving with wanton disregard, driving while license revoked and improper passing.
Padgett was arrested early Saturday morning. He was also charged with being a fugitive from justice.
He was being held in the Iredell County Detention Center in lieu of a $95,000 bond.
The charges stem from a near-miss on Old Mountain Road that occurred about 6:16 a.m. on Thursday when a Kia Soul nearly hit the students.
Iredell-Statesville Schools released a video of the incident, asking for help identifying the vehicle.
He should be sentenced to wash the stop signs on every school bus in Iredell County while serving time in jail.
10 or 15 yrs in prison minimum. That’s what he deserves.
Plus watching that video over and over to remind him of how close he came to killing children.
There is no excuse for what he did. As the old saying goes…”Throw the book at him”!!!!!!
He’ll get off with a fine and probation, courtesy of our pathetic court system.
