FROM STAFF REPORTS
A Charlotte man who avoided being apprehended following a pursuit by Troutman police officers was arrested on Friday.
The Troutman Police Department announced the arrest of Taylen Jermon Barbour, 19, of Freedom Drive, Charlotte, on social media.
About 9:50 p.m. on Thursday, a TPD officer stopped a Honda Pilot on South Main Street near Perry Road, police said. However, as the officer approached the vehicle, the driver drove away, and the officer initiated a pursuit, according to the news release.
The SUV traveled from Main Street onto Old Mountain Road, where the driver lost control of the vehicle and drove into a ditch on the side of the road near Wallace Springs Road, police said. The driver then fled on foot into a wooded area, according to the news release.
A Statesville Police Department K9 unit responded to the area to attempt to track the suspect, but officers did not locate the suspect at that time, police said.
Officers identified the driver as Barbour after locating his driver’s license in the Honda Pilot, according to the news release.
The TPD then obtained warrants charging Barbour with felony speeding to elude arrest along with other traffic charges.
On Friday morning officers responded to reports of a suspicious person on Old Mountain Road near South Iredell High School and located Barbour, police said.
Barbour was taken into custody for the outstanding warrants in addition to charges of possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana. He was taken before a magistrate who issued a $23,500 secured bond.
Barbor is currently on probation in Mecklenburg County following his conviction for larceny of a motor vehicle.
The TPD expressed its appreciation to the SPD, N.C. Highway Patrol and Iredell County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance.
