The City of Statesville on Tuesday announced the hiring of Matt Hubert as the city engineer.
Hubert, a dedicated public service professional with over 20 years of experience in municipal administration and engineering in North Carolina, brings a wealth of expertise in growth management, public infrastructure, and regulatory compliance to this essential role.
In his new position, Hubert will oversee the operations of the Engineering Department, coordinating municipal engineering projects, stormwater initiatives, and infrastructure improvements. His responsibilities include the planning, design, contracting, and inspection of city construction and public works infrastructure projects. He will also serve as a vital resource for technical engineering guidance for the City Council, other departments and Statesville residents.
“Matt’s extensive background in public infrastructure and engineering management, along with his commitment to collaborative and transparent leadership, makes him a tremendous asset to the City of Statesville,” said Assistant City Manager Scott Harrell. “We are excited to welcome him to our team, and we’re confident that his contributions will support our efforts to enhance and sustain our growing community.”
Hubert, a professional engineer licensed in North Carolina, holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. His career has included roles such as assistant town manager and director of engineering, where he directed complex infrastructure projects and worked closely with local partners, developers, and residents to implement innovative solutions for growing municipalities.
