Special to IFN

The City of Statesville has issued new restrictions in an effort to promote water conservation in response to worsening drought conditions.

The Statesville area is now under a Stage D2 Severe Drought condition. The drought condition is determined by the N.C. Drought Management Advisory Council (NCDMAC).

This follows the recent update to the North Carolina Drought Advisory, based on data from the U.S. Drought Monitor of North Carolina.

In accordance with City Code and the Water Shortage Response Plan (WSRP), the City of Statesville is implementing stricter water-use restrictions to manage consumption during this severe drought period.

Irrigation Restrictions

The following measures are now in effect:

♦ Lawn and landscape irrigation is allowed during the following times and locations:
Odd-numbered street addresses
– Tuesday 8 p.m. to Wednesday 8 a.m.
– Saturday 8 p.m. to Sunday 8 a.m.

Even-numbered street addresses and unnumbered addresses
– Thursday 8 p.m. to Friday 8 a.m.
– Sunday 8 p.m. to Monday 8 a.m.

♦ Tree and bed irrigation is restricted to bubble, drip, or hand irrigation only.

♦ Golf courses and athletic fields must follow an alternative watering plan approved by the director.

Prohibited Activities

♦ All residential vehicle washing is prohibited.

♦ Washing of public buildings, sidewalks, and streets is prohibited except for safety and health compliance.

City staff urge all residents to do their part in conserving water during this severe drought period. While civil fines may be issued for non-compliance, the city’s primary goal is to encourage voluntary cooperation and community effort in reducing water use.

Staff will continue to monitor drought conditions and implement further measures as deemed necessary by the NCDMAC. Additional voluntary or mandatory conservation measures may be published by the director if needed.
