Special to IFN

The Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization (CRTPO) invites the public to participate in a drop-in community event on Wednesday, June 26, from 3 to 5 p.m.

The meeting will be held at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center lobby at 600 E. Fourth Street in Charlotte.

The CRTPO is seeking input on the update to its 2055 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP). Residents are encouraged to provide feedback about the region’s long-range transportation needs and issues in-person or by accessing the 2055 MTP website, 2055mtp.org, by completing a survey, adding comments on the interactive map of the region, or submitting a comment form.

The public comment period opened on June 3 and will close on Wednesday, July 3.

The 2055 MTP documents the region’s vision for the future and establishes goals, objectives, and transportation priorities over the next 20+ years to help achieve that vision. This plan considers all surface transportation modes (driving, bicycling, walking, riding transit, freight movement) while also thinking about impacts to the environment, the economy, public health, and overall quality of life.

Residents may also comment on the 2055 MTP update in person during the CRTPO Board meetings on June 26, July 17, and August 21. The meetings are held in Room 267 of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center beginning at 6 p.m. Those who wish to speak must sign up at least five minutes prior to the start of the meeting.

The CRTPO Board is anticipated to approve the 2055 MTP goals and objectives during the August 21 meeting.

Throughout the 2055 MTP update process, several resources will be available, geared toward engaging residents in the process, helping to educate stakeholders about transportation planning efforts in our region and providing opportunities for the community to voice their opinions. Visit the 2055 MTP website and follow CRTPO on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/crtpo) and X (formerly Twitter) (https://x.com/CLTRegionalTPO).
