The EnergyUnited Foundation awarded $100,000 in October through the large grant program, demonstrating a strong commitment to supporting local nonprofit organizations.

Thirty-seven nonprofit organizations applied for the large grant program opportunity. Four nonprofits were selected to receive $25,000 each to support their missions of providing critical services across the cooperative’s service area.

Grant recipients include Children’s Home of Iredell County, Carpenter’s Hands Mission of Davidson County, Home Solutions of Davidson County and Family Promise of Davie County.

“Each of these four nonprofits selected by the EnergyUnited Foundation for the large grant opportunity mirror the mission of the Foundation,” said LaQuisha Parks, vice president of energy services and corporate communications for EnergyUnited. “They provide housing, utilities or humane needs – truly cornerstones of hope and stability for families in our communities.”

The Children’s Home of Iredell County offers a nurturing home for children removed from their families due to issues of abuse, neglect, and dependency. The grant will directly fund the renovation of their downstairs space. The funding will support necessary structural improvements, electrical and plumbing work, insulation and furnishings.

Carpenter’s Hands Mission of Davidson County serves those who have faced unfortunate life events such as natural disasters, health challenges or disabilities. The organization provides shelter to these individuals by remodeling homes from storm damage and has also helped build wheelchair ramps for individuals with disabilities. The grant will be used to purchase materials for the organization to continue serving communities in EnergyUnited’s service area.

Home Solutions of Davidson County has facilitated an Emergency Home Repair program for over 20 years. This program is designed for qualifying individuals who are veterans, senior citizens, disabled, low-income or single-parent homeowners in Davidson County. The grant will be used to fund major home repairs for qualifying homeowners, allowing them to remain safe and secure in their own homes.

Family Promise of Davie County addresses the issue of family homelessness by providing prevention services, shelter and transitional housing, stabilization programs and case management. The grant from the EnergyUnited Foundation will provide shelter and supportive services to families experiencing housing crises in Davie County.

The EnergyUnited Foundation is a voluntary, member-funded non-profit organization supported by EnergyUnited’s Operation Round-Up program. More than 82,000 EnergyUnited members choose to participate in the program by ‘rounding up’ their electric bills each month. The maximum monthly contribution for an individual member with one account is 99 cents. Each of these small contributions are pooled together in a single fund managed by the EnergyUnited Foundation to support needy individuals, families, and essential nonprofit organizations that complete an application explaining the reason and purpose for their requested grant.
