FROM STAFF REPORTS

A former Statesville pastor and one-time Iredell-Statesville Schools employee is back behind bars after being arrested on a fugitive warrant and charged with failing to register as a sex offender in Virginia.

Glen Dean McCoy

Glen Dean McCoy Jr., 41, was arrested on Monday by an Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputy. According to his arrest records, he was living on Cyprus Lane east of Statesville.

McCoy remained in custody in the Iredell County Detention Center on Friday night in lieu of a $250,000 bond pending extradition to Virginia.

Following a police investigation, McCoy was arrested in June of 2014 in Madison, Tenn., and charged with raping a 17-year-old boy that he met online. Police also said they discovered emails between the teen and McCoy that showed photos of them engaging in sex acts.

After being indicted on multiple charges, McCoy was convicted of one count each of sexual exploitation of a minor and aggravated statutory rape in Nashville, Tenn., in August of 2015. He was ordered to pay $19,012 in court costs and received a four-year suspended prison sentence. Court records show he was later ordered to serve a year in prison for violating the terms of his probation.

McCoy had served as an ordained minister and a co-pastor at The Life Church in Statesville. He worked as a bus driver and teacher’s assistant for I-SS from September 2002 until February 2012.
