Special to IFN

Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont celebrates the organization’s exceptional volunteers each spring during the organization’s annual meeting. During this year’s gathering at the Elm and Bain in Greensboro, volunteers were recognized for their dedication and service to the organization.

Volunteers are the heart of the organization. They lead girls to try new things and become leaders in our communities. They provide mentorship to girls as they grow. And, especially through the pandemic, they have helped girls face challenging times and come out stronger.

In honor of her service, Mooresville resident Rachel Onyskin was presented the Appreciation Award. The award recognizes a registered Girl Scout adult who has delivered outstanding service to at least one geographic area or program delivery audience.

Onyskin has been an invaluable asset to the Mooresville Service Unit for nine years, excelling in various leadership roles. As a troop leader and adult learning specialist and in her latest role as co-service unit specialist, Rachel has had a profound impact, spearheading the introduction of three new events, including a Cookie Kick-Off to boost sales and community visibility and a program for Girl Scout Seniors to become Girl Scout Gold Award ready.

Onyskin’s enthusiasm and commitment shine through in her efforts to enhance training opportunities, increase participation in service unit-wide events and foster community engagement, leaving a lasting and positive impact on the Mooresville Service Unit.

“Our volunteers play a critical part in delivering our mission to the girls throughout our council area,” said Jennifer Wilcox, CEO of Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont. “With their dedication and leadership, they are helping us teach girls lifelong skills, building their confidence to try new things and instilling in them a desire to serve others and their communities.”
