Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ event inspires students to overcome life’s challenges

A large crowd of students, parents, and others participated in the Field of Faith event Tuesday night at West Iredell High School, declaring their love of Christ and encouraging others to seek salvation.

Beulah Baptist Church provided food, water, and the good news.

Multiple high school students, coaches and musicians took the stage on the football field to share scripture and testimony on how Christ changed their lives. Speakers touched on illegal substance abuse, incarceration, bad habits, and premarital sex in an effort to inspire others to overcome their challenges.

Kinley Pennell, a senior at North Iredell High School, spoke about the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, which was founded in 1954. The organization has chapters in 100 countries — and is open to everyone.

“We play sports for the Lord first and foremost, but we help equip others with the word of Christ so others can get close to Him,” Pennell said. “God is trying to reach you and get your attention.”

West Iredell High students Brice Speaks and Kendall Harrison gave their testimonies and questioned sad events in their lives, but shared how they both overcame through Christ.

“God is greater than everything you’ll go through,” Harrison said.

West Iredell High Coach Mickey Jordan spoke on personal hardships, including parental divorce, the death of his dad, health struggles, and incarceration.

“Every single thing happens for a reason,” he said. “It helped me understand others and brought me closer to the Lord. Never count God out and always believe everything in your life is for a reason.”

South Iredell High School senior Wyatt Weddington spoke about the importance of making the most of life.

“Our time is limited. I used to wish away time,” he said. “Now I realize all that time should be used for the kingdom.”

Weddington spoke about the importance of prayer and thanking God no matter the circumstances. He also shared about his mission trip to Peru.

“Those people were joyful and thanking God despite their circumstances,” he shared. “It woke me up that I’ve wasted so much time complaining versus thanking Jesus.”
