Special to IFN
In preparation for the upcoming school year, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer Unit has been training to ensure the safety and security of our schools.
Over the past several weeks SROs have been honing their skills in active-shooter strategies, firearms training, and de-escalation techniques.
Training has focused on solo active-shooter training, which prepares our officers to respond swiftly and effectively to potential threats even when they are the first responders to arrive on the scene. This training is crucial in ensuring that SROs can act decisively and protect lives in critical situations.
Additionally, the SROs have received first aid and CPR training, enabling them to provide immediate medical assistance in emergencies.
In the coming weeks, SROs will further enhance their preparedness with threat-assessment training, including a specialized course known as Threat Evaluation and Risk Classification) Training, taught by Threat Assessment Detective Heather Little. This training equips SROs with the skills to accurately assess potential threats and implement appropriate measures to prevent incidents before they occur.
The SROs’ dedication and hard work reflect their ongoing commitment to maintaining a secure and supportive learning environment.
