FROM STAFF REPORTS

Three individuals face felony charges as a result of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office’s efforts to enforce sex offender registration requirements.

During fall festivals and Halloween-themed events, ICSO personnel work to ensure that sex offenders adhere to registry requirements designed to protect our community, Sheriff Darren Campbell said in a news release.

Detective B. Padgett, who is responsible for sex offender compliance, conducted proactive checks to ensure registered offenders were complying with legal restrictions during these seasonal events.

Danny Patterson
Shelley Putnam

On October 26, Detective Padgett attempted a compliance check on registered sex offender Danny Edward Patterson at his residence on Lark Lane. The check was conducted due to the proximity of his home to a Halloween event held at South River Baptist Church. During the visit, an individual at Patterson’s home claimed he was not present and had attended the church event, Campbell said.

The detective immediately visited the church, notified staff, and confirmed via security footage that Patterson had indeed been on the premises during the event, according to the news release.

Patterson, 67, was arrested and charged with Felony Sex Offender at or Near Child Premises and issued a $10,000 secured bond by Magistrate Russell.

During the investigation, Patterson’s partner, Shelley Renee Putnam, repeatedly altered her account of the events, which appeared to be an attempt to mislead law enforcement, Campbell said.

As a result, Putnam, 53, was arrested, charged with Failure to Report Noncompliance of a Sex Offender and issued a $5,000 secured bond by Magistrate Chambers.

Michael Frediani

In a separate incident on November 2, Detective Padgett was contacted by an officer with the N.C. Department of Adult Corrections, who witnessed Michael Joseph Frediani, another registered sex offender, in downtown Statesville during the Statesville Pumpkin Festival, Campbell said. Due to his status as a registered sex offender, Frediani is prohibited from being present in a high-traffic area intended for families and children.

Frediani, 52, of Woodlawn Drive, Statesville, was arrested and charged with Felony Sex Offender at or Near Child Premises. He was issued a $3,500 secured bond by Magistrate Chambers.

Detective Padgett and the Sheriff’s Office will continue to take preventative actions and monitor registered sex offenders closely, ensuring that our public spaces remain safe for all, Campbell said.
