The Iredell County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday will consider a request on Tuesday to award a contract for the design of phase I of the Iredell County Fairgrounds project.

The budget for phase I of the multi-phase project is $16 million.

Phase I includes a 25,000-square-foot agricultural center that would include space for parks and recreation offices, a large event hall, restrooms, break room, conference room, storage spaces, community kitchen and catering kitchen. Also included in this phase are the construction of more than 700 parking spaces.

During Tuesday’s meeting, commissioners will consider a contract amendment for programming, design, engineering and construction administration for phase I with CPL Architectural, Engineering and Planning for $1,262,125.

CPL was previously hired to produce the master plan for the fairgrounds project.

OTHER BUSINESS

Also during Tuesday’s meeting:

♦ Laura Johnson, a representative of the Iredell County Child Fatality Prevention Team, will present findings and recommendations from the 2023 Annual Report. In 2023, the group reviewed 24 child deaths, including 21 that occurred in 2022, two deaths that occurred in 2021 and one death that occurred in 2018. Thirteen of the deaths involved children under age 1.

♦ Commissioners will consider a request from Library Director Juli Moore to appoint an America 250 NC Committee.

♦ Commissioners will be briefed on plans for construction of the Chief Thomas Road Convenience Site.

MEETING DETAILS

Commissioners will hold a pre-agenda meeting at 4 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at 6 p.m. Both meetings are held in the Commissioners’ meeting room in the Iredell County Government Center, located at 200 South Center Street in Statesville.
