Substance misuse remains a significant challenge affecting individuals and communities worldwide. As part of its effort to provide support and resources for those affected, the Iredell County Health Department will host a seminar that presents a unique opportunity for attendees to gain insights into the support services available and to hear from experts in the field.

“Empowering Communities: Substance Misuse Support Seminar” is scheduled for Thursday, May 23. The three-hour event, which begins at 10 a.m., will be held 159 Gateway Boulevard in Mooresville. Lunch will be provided for all attendees.

The seminar will provide a platform for individuals to connect with others who share a passion for making a positive difference in their communities. This seminar is for individuals in active addiction and those struggling with substance misuse, as well as those who wish to learn how to support those struggling with misuse. This event aims to provide a supportive environment, educational resources, and strategies for coping with addiction.

Topics will include coping mechanisms, treatment options, and community support.

Participants will learn about the various support services and resources available for individuals and communities affected by substance misuse; hear from experts who will share valuable insights and perspectives on addressing substance misuse effectively; and connect with like-minded individuals who are dedicated to empowering communities and fostering positive change.

“Recognizing the signs of substance misuse isn’t just about understanding a problem; it’s about being aware and taking action,” said Jennifer Kilby, Substance Misuse Program coordinator for the Iredell County Health Department. “By coming together and fostering open dialogue, we can assist our community in enabling proactive responses and support for substance misuse.”
