The Boys & Girls Club of the Piedmont has scheduled the 2nd Annual Randy Marion Pancake Day – Iredell’s Happiest Day for Thursday, April 18.

The event will be held at the Statesville Civic Center from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Last year marked the first Pancake Day fundraiser for the club.

“We were overwhelmed with community support last year,” Brady Johnson, director of development. “We had 67 sponsors. The event served 1,972 guests and more than 260 individual volunteers served at our first event. All the Rotary Clubs in Iredell County supported the event as well as teams of volunteers from businesses, churches and schools. We were humbled by the outpouring of support last year, a true reflection of the spirit of giving within our community.”

Executive Director Clarrisa Young said proceeds from the event help fund the After School and Summer Camp Programs. The club currently serves 476 students at the Cochran Street campus in Statesville and 51 students at the satellite campus at Shepherd Elementary School in Mooresville.

“The need for youth services in our community are so great,” she said.

Thanks to generous donors and the consistent support of the community, Boys & Girls Club has served Iredell County students and their families since 2009. The After School program runs from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. daily. An eight-week Summer Camp is provided from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily each summer when public schools are closed. The Club serves students in grades K- 12 and offers all members access to academic tutors, help with homework, classes in technology, character education, leadership development, visual and performing arts, intermural sports, games, volunteer opportunities and more.

The nonprofit served 37,879 meals to children in 2023 as part of the After School and Summer Camp Programs.

Event sponsors and volunteers, including “Gourmet Chefs” are being recruited for this year’s event.

“Pancake Day – Iredell’s Happiest Day is more than a fundraising event,” Board Chairman Ray Englebert said. “We strive to make our event a fun community celebration where attendees can share a meal with friends and neighbors in support of the kids in our community that need our help most.”

Potential sponsors and volunteers may find additional information online at www.piedmontbgc.org.
