FROM STAFF REPORTS

Iredell Arts Council Executive Director John Koppelmeyer has announced his retirement, effective November 30. He notified the Board during its meeting on September 17.

Koppelmeyer, who was honored as the 2023 Greater Statesville Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year, has been involved with the Iredell Arts Council for over 11 years, first serving as a Board member and Board chair. He has served as executive directed for the past 4½ years, significantly increasing the nonprofit’s offerings and community partnerships.

“I am proud of the accomplishments we have been able to achieve, from upgrading our performance space to establishing the hugely successful Full Bloom Film Festival, growing the concert and art series, and generating support for local artists and art organizations,” Koppelmeyer said.

He expressed gratitude to the artists, musicians, volunteers, board members, and donors who have contributed to the Council’s impact.

“I will cherish those relationships and memories to the end of my days,” he said.

Koppelmeyer is optimistic about the future of the Iredell Arts Council, which provides grassroots funding to local artists and arts organizations while also hosting concerts, art shows and other community events.

“I am excited to leave the Iredell Arts Council at a time when they are poised to take another leap in growing as a leader in our creative community. I look forward to what a new executive director can do for the Iredell Arts Council and encourage you to stay connected,” he said. “I know I will.”
