The 2024-2025 Leadership Statesville cohort is working to create a clean, safe, and calm outdoor sanctuary for residents of My Sister’s House, a shelter and resource center for women and children fleeing abuse and/or human trafficking.

Leadership Statesville participants are asking the community to help make the group’s vision possible.

The Greater Statesville Chamber of Commerce hosts a nine-month, intensive program to shape future community leaders. The program includes completing a project to benefit a local organization. This year’s cohort includes 23 professionals from a vast array of backgrounds including government, community outreach, manufacturing, banking, engineering, logistics, sales, and landscaping. This variety of skill sets has been a tremendous asset to the planning and execution of the outdoor sanctuary project for My Sister’s House.

The project, led by cohort members Emma Lovill (Kleinhenz Holdings) and Christina Redfearn (Bobcat), is an extensive overhaul of the outdoor space at My Sister’s House with an anticipated completion date of April 2025.

Plans include:
● Repair fencing materials;
● Lay rubber mulch under children’s playground;
● Update sandbox & clean up playground;
● Build low maintenance raised garden beds;
● Replace awning over patio;
● Pressure wash patio; and
● Update & clean up landscaping

The total project budget goal is $15,149. This project cannot be completed without the support of the community, whether through financial or in-kind contributions. All donations are 100 percent tax-deductible. To donate, contact Nicole Kershner (Chamber of Commerce) at 704-873-2892 or nkershner@statesvillechamber.org.

Women and children at My Sister’s House deserve a clean, safe, and calm outdoor sanctuary to enjoy. With help from the community, we can make this vision possible.
