The number 25 holds both a personal and professional significance to new Statesville YMCA Executive Director Mac Inscore.
Inscore highlighted the reasons that number is important to her and the YMCA during the organization’s annual Impact Meeting at the Statesville Civic Center on Friday evening.
Inscore’s brother, U.S. Army Capt. Brandon Inscore, was born on October 25, 1996, and died on August 25, 2024, in an automobile accident in Georgia.
On the professional side, she was offered her position as executive director on October 25.
The final connection between Inscore and the number is that the nonprofit hoped to raise $25,000 at Friday’s event
She encouraged those present at the banquet to make a pledge to make that goal happen.
“I personally pledge to you that your donation to the Y will make a difference in someone’s life,” she said.
Contributions have not been totaled for Friday’s event, but the impact of the YMCA in the community was highlighted in a video presentation.
Joan Voorheiss, who is part of the safety around water program for children at the Y, talked about the impact she’s witnessed.
She has watched as children of all ages and comfort levels around water have built confidence through their achievements in the program.
Voorheiss said the smiles on the faces of children when they learn an activity is one of the reasons she is a firm believer in teaching them.
YMCA of Northwest North Carolina President and CEO Darryl Head reminded the crowd that the organization is vital to the community partially because of its commitment to providing a safe and nurturing place for children.
“No child is turned away due to inability to pay,” he said.
