Boys & Girls Club of the Piedmont members were treated to a Back-to-School Field Day on Friday afternoon, enjoying the obstacle course, football booth, kickball, hula hoops, soccer, golf and favorite games such as Connect Four. The kids cooled off with popsicles.

Manheim Statesville by Cox Automotive sponsored the event, providing employees with a chance to volunteer and be kids for a couple of hours.

Manheim General Manager Amanda Savage showed off her hula hooping skills and danced with club members while her co-workers oversaw the various activities and events.

Manheim Statesville supports the Boys & Girls Club every year with a back-to-school drive. This year they decided to host the field day as a fun way to do something extra.

“We really appreciate the Boys & Girls Club and the work they do with the kids,” Savage said, pointing out that some of their employees have children who attend the Boys & Girls Club.

“This chapter is an extension of our family,” she added.

Manheim Statesville donated $8,000, with the help of some of their community partners, to the nonprofit, along with school supplies.

“This is an example of what good corporate leadership and goodwill looks like,” said Boys & Girls Club Director of Development Brady Johnson.

Board chairman Ray Englebert also stopped by to thank Manheim Statesville employees.

“Watching the kids have a good time, you can’t help but smile,” he said. “Just seeing them have fun with their friends does my heart good.”
