The North Carolina Music Hall of Fame 2024 Induction Ceremony was held on October 17 at the Charles Mack Citizen Center in Mooresville.

A star-studded lineup of North Carolina’s most influential music icons was honored during the sold-out event.

Music lovers, industry professionals, and fans gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of this year’s inductees: Clarence Avant, Mary Cardwell Dawson, Tommy Faile, Bobby Hicks, Petey Pablo, and Merge Records.

The night was filled with performances, speeches, and video highlights showcasing the deep connection these individuals have to North Carolina’s rich musical heritage.

Grammy-winning bluegrass legend Bobby Hicks was honored with his children accepting the award on his behalf and sharing touching memories of their father’s career.

Petey Pablo, North Carolina’s hip-hop trailblazer, gave a memorable and heartfelt speech and had the crowd on its feet with his high-energy performance, paying tribute to his roots and the community that helped shape him.

Laura Ballance, co-founder of Merge Records, accepted the award on behalf of the renowned indie label, highlighting its contributions to the indie music scene with a performance by H.C. McEntire, an artist signed under the label.

Tommy Faile, a beloved country music singer and songwriter, was also honored with his daughter and family accepting the award in his memory, followed by a performance of his classic song “Phantom 309” by David Johnson & Band with guest Performer Bobby Denton.

In tribute to Mary Cardwell Dawson, renowned classical vocalist Kendrick Williams delivered a stunning performance, showcasing his warm, captivating lyrical tone. Williams moved the audience with a beautiful rendition honoring Dawson’s pioneering contributions to opera and her groundbreaking career as the founder of the National Negro Opera Company.

Anthony Hamilton accepted the award on behalf of Clarence Avant, “The Black Godfather” who was celebrated for his monumental influence behind the scenes in music and entertainment. Hopkins conveyed heartfelt remarks from Avant’s daughter, highlighting his contributions and the legacy he leaves behind. Hamilton also performed in remembrance of Avant.
