The MPD announced the arrest of Erick Mauricio Guevara, 27, in a news release Thursday afternoon.

The MPD opened an investigation on Tuesday after receiving a report of a possible sexual assault involving a 13-year-old female victim.

Officers spoke with the teen’s parents and learned that there was possible inappropriate conduct between the victim and an adult acquaintance, according to the news release.

Guevara was identified as a suspect and was interviewed by an MPD detective. During the interview, Guevara admitted to allowing the victim to come to his residence, where he provided the victim with marijuana and had sexual intercourse with her, according to the news release.

The suspect also stated that he was aware the victim was underage, police said.

Guevara was arrested and charged with Felony Statutory Rape of a Child Under 15 Years of Age and Misdemeanor Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor.

The suspect was taken before a Magistrate and placed in the Iredell County Detention Center under no bond pending an initial court appearance.
