Mooresville Police Department officers arrested three individuals on Thursday after receiving alerts from automatic license plate readers for stolen vehicles.

About 12:41 p.m., officers received an alert notifying them that a stolen motor vehicle was traveling westbound on Highway 150, according to an MPD news release. Officers located the suspect vehicle at the intersection of Highway 150 and Williamson Road and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.

The suspect vehicle fled and was pursued by officers south on Williamson Road, police said. The driver abandoned the vehicle in a parking lot and fled on foot towards the Fountains Apartments, but was apprehended by an MPD K9 and taken into custody without further incident

The driver, identified as Omarion Khibre Hinson, 19, of Albemarle was found to have five outstanding warrants in Stanly County. He was charged with felony flee to elude, felony possession of stolen goods, misdemeanor careless and reckless driving, misdemeanor resist, delay, and obstruct an officer, and misdemeanor possession of a schedule VI controlled substance. Hinson was placed in the Iredell County Detention Center under no bond for the MPD charges and a $160,000 secured bond for the outstanding warrants.

About  2:50 p.m., officers received a second alert about a stolen motor vehicle travelling westbound on Highway 150  at Interstate 77. Officers located the vehicle in the parking lot of the Home Run Market.

When officers attempted to make a traffic stop, the suspect vehicle fled south on I-77 at a high rate of speed, according to the news release. Officers pursued the vehicle south on I-77 until encountering heavy traffic near Exit 31. The suspect vehicle utilized the Langtree Road bridge to return to I-77 northbound and then got off the interstate at Exit 36. Officers pursued the vehicle to the parking lot at 215 W. Plaza Drive.

A passenger who fled on foot was apprehended by officers on the property and identified as Jessica Shackleford, 32, of Concord, police said. She was charged with two counts of misdemeanor resist, delay, and obstruct. She was placed in the Iredell County Detention Center under a $2,500 secured bond.

The driver of the vehicle fled on foot and entered the business located at 215 W. Plaza Drive, police said. He was taken into custody a short time later after officers were alerted by employees.

The driver, identified as Steven Chapman Thomas, 39, of Charlotte, was charged with misdemeanor resist, delay, and obstruct an officer; felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle; felony flee to elude, misdemeanor careless and reckless driving, misdemeanor suspended operators license, felony possession with intent to deliver a schedule VI controlled substance, felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance.

Thomas was served with six outstanding arrest warrants from Union County, three warrants from Guilford County, four warrants from Kannapolis, one warrant from Cabarrus County, and three from Mecklenburg County.

Thomas was placed in the Iredell County Detention Center under no bond for the MPD charges and a combination of no bond and $64,950 secured bond for the outstanding warrants.
