N.B. Mills Elementary School hosted a Multilingual Learner Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, May 29.
Before the presentation of certificates, students from kindergarteners, first-graders and second-graders took the stage.
The kindergarten students presented “The Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf.” The first-graders sang a song about what they want to be when they grow up. The second-graders presented a poem titled “My Brother Had a Fit,” a play titled “Stone Soup,” and another play titled “The Stinky Cheese Man.”
These cute and comical performances enthralled the audience, which consisted of more than 60 visitors.
Students from each grade level were recognized for their language growth on the annual ACCESS test, a lengthy exam that tests English language abilities in the domains of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Furthermore, eight students were recognized for achieving proficiency!
N.B. Mills staff and students were thrilled with the turnout and are already making plans for next year’s ceremony.
