A Statesville man was killed Wednesday evening when he crashed his motorcycle near Mooresville, according to the N.C. State Highway Patrol.

Scott Alexander Turner, 65, was traveling on Shinnville Road near Weathers Creek Road when he lost control of his Harley-Davidson about 7:45 p.m., troopers said.

The motorcycle crossed the center line, veered off the road and hit several mailboxes, according to the NCSHP. Turner was thrown from the motorcycle and sustained fatal injuries.

A preliminary investigation determined that excessive speed was a factor in the deadly crash, troopers said.
