Each summer, a group of academically and intellectually gifted students from across the state are selected to further their studies on a college campus by attending the Governor’s School of North Carolina.
Nineteen Iredell-Statesville Schools students have been chosen to participate in the 2024 session of the Governor’s Schools of North Carolina, in subjects ranging from mathematics to Visual Arts.
This year’s students are:
• Peyton Seldomridge (Natural Science)

• Liberty Prince (Instrumental Music Clarinet)

Application criteria include grade point average, essay scores, recommendations, evidence of extracurricular activities, leadership roles, and community service, and, in the areas of performing/visual arts, audition scores.
According to I-SS Director of Gifted, IB and Online Learning Kelly Hinson, less than 1 percent of all N.C. high school students advance to statewide consideration.
Nineteen of the 45 students from I-SS who advanced to the state level of selection were invited to attend the 2024 session of N.C. Governor’s School.
“Nineteen is the highest number I can find being selected from Iredell-Statesville Schools. This is a very strong group,” Hinson said.
