The skies over Statesville are set to dazzle once again as the 49th annual Carolina BalloonFest returns to the Statesville Regional Airport on October 18-20.
Presented by National Balloon Rally Charities (NBRC), the festival is the second oldest hot air balloon event in the United States—and continues to draw national attention and provide awe-inspiring experiences for all ages.
Attendees from across the country will travel to Statesville to witness morning balloon competitions, mass balloon ascensions, and the mesmerizing evening balloon glows that paint the skies in vibrant colors. This three-day event celebrates the art of ballooning, rich with community spirit, and promises a variety of experiences that are sure to capture the imagination.
“The Carolina BalloonFest has become a signature event not just for Statesville, but for the entire Southeast,” said NBRC Executive Director Sam Parks. “We’ve seen families return year after year to experience this magic, and it’s our goal to make the 49th edition better than ever. From the roar of the balloons ascending at dawn to the glow of them lighting up the night, this is an event that captures the imagination of all who attend.”
Gary Cook, chair of NBRC Board, highlighted the importance of the event for the local community.
“Carolina BalloonFest is more than just a festival—it’s a celebration of the spirit of our region. It brings people together to share in the wonder of ballooning, to support local artisans, and to create lasting memories. We’re proud to host an event that contributes to local nonprofits and creates a sense of pride in our community,” he said. “Our balloonists, performers, and volunteers put their heart and soul into making this event an experience like no other.”
Carolina BalloonFest offers much more than breathtaking balloons. Festival-goers can expect live entertainment, an expansive kids’ zone, a marketplace and artisan village, and North Carolina wine and craft beer gardens. The event brings together an eclectic mix of adventure, culture, and community.
With over $1 million raised for local nonprofits and community agencies, Carolina BalloonFest is also a force for good in the region. The festival continues to grow its philanthropic reach, all while honoring the traditions of ballooning that began right here in Iredell County.
