Special to IFN

As the new school year approaches, it’s time to prepare for a successful and active year ahead. For student-athletes, that means getting a sports physical to ensure they’re ready to hit the field, court, or track safely.

Piedmont HealthCare Urgent Care in Statesville and Piedmont HealthCare Express Care in Mooresville are here to help with affordable and convenient sports physicals for just $25 during the month of August.

What is a Sports Physical?

A sports physical, also known as a pre-participation physical examination (PPE), is a medical check-up designed to determine if it’s safe for a student to participate in sports. This exam assesses the student’s overall health and fitness level, identifying any conditions that might prevent them from participating in sports safely.

The physical typically includes:

Medical History Review: Discussing past illnesses, injuries, and family medical history.

♦ Physical Examination: Checking height, weight, blood pressure, heart rate, and vision. Examining the heart, lungs, abdomen, ears, nose, and throat. Assessing strength, flexibility, joints, and posture.

Additional Tests: Depending on the student’s health history, additional tests or referrals to specialists might be necessary.

Piedmont HealthCare’s urgent care centers in Statesville and Mooresville offer walk-in appointments so you can get your sports physical without the need for a lengthy wait or an appointment.

Experienced healthcare providers conduct thorough examinations to ensure your student is in peak condition for their sports activities. Should any issues arise during the physical, the PHC team is equipped to provide the necessary follow-up care or referrals to specialists within the Piedmont HealthCare network.
