Local artists and community members gathered Saturday evening at the Cooper Street Banner Art Gallery for a ribbon-cutting of the Downtown Statesville Development Corporation’s latest art installation.

The ceremony capped a successful 2024 Fall Fine Art Crawl, which showcased the work of more than 45 artists throughout the downtown district.

DSDC board member Marin Tomlin said this is the third installation since the banner gallery opened in 2018.

Joey Dill, whose work is featured in the outdoor gallery, said her work titled “Hometown Colors” was inspired by growing up in Statesville.

“I wanted to bring something bright, colorful and whimsical,” she said.

Lisa Mikeal’s “Sunset over Silos” was captured in West Iredell at the intersection of Stamey Farm and Island Ford roads.

“It is not filtered,” she said. “It was the most breathtaking sunset I’ve ever seen.”

Alan Mota, a 2019 graduate of Statesville High and recent graduate of the University of North Carolina Charlotte, said his work, titled “Onto the Sun,” was taken about six months ago, despite its vintage feel.

The installation includes the following works:

♦ “Intersection” by M.E. Leaver;
♦ “Sunset Over the Silos” by Lisa Faust Mikeal;
♦ “Hometown Colors” by Joey Dill;
♦ “Onto the Sun” by Alan Mota;
♦ “Gateway to Canola Field” by Wendy Bailey;
♦ “First Light at Fort Dobbs” by J. Cody Owen; and
♦ “N.B Mills Building circa 1890” by W.J. Stimpson
