N.B. Mills Elementary School fourth-graders celebrated Black History Month by hosting a “Gallery of History “ on Thursday.
The wax museum showcased prominent African Americans. The students chose historical figures to research and were assisted by school staff members, who helped by lending clothes and props.
Instructional coaches Cierra Ferguson and Emily McCord were pleased with how the event turned out.
“They really enjoyed researching and learning about their figures,” Ferguson said.
Teacher Brittany Gibson believes the museum provides a great opportunity for the students to learn.
“A lot of the kids grow up and might notice faces on TV, but as far as historical figures they might not know them at all,” she said. “It’s great for them doing research all on their own.”
