A large crowd, including some in colorful costumes, participated in the Special Olympics of Iredell County’s 2024 Run & Plunge on Saturday morning.
The water in the Statesville Leisure Pool was a chilly 35 degrees, but that didn’t stop dozens of participants from taking the plunge.
“We have surpassed $18,000,” local program coordinator Bobbi Williams told the crowd. “We’re going to exceed $20,000 today!”
Richard Griggs, director of Statesville Recreation and Parks, said the event was a success.
“The big win is the crowd of 100 or more,” he said.
