Statesville Fire Department personnel were alerted to a structure fire on South Mulberry Street by an off-duty fire fighter about 7:30 a.m. Sunday.

Ladder 1 was the first company on scene. Fire fighters were met with heavy fire coming from the two-story structure and a working fire was declared.

One occupant who suffered burns and smoke inhalation was transported to a local hospital by Iredell County EMS.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No other injuries were reported.
