A Statesville man faces gun and drug charges after being stopped for traffic violations by an Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputy.
Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of Devyion Mylique Patterson, 21, of Brevard Street, Statesville, in a news release Monday afternoon.
Deputy S. Zalepka, who is assigned to the ICSO Community Oriented Policing Unit, conducted a traffic stop on a Honda CRV near the intersection of Brawley School Road and Williamson Road in Mooresville on Sunday, November 24.
During a probable cause search of the vehicle, deputies discovered and seized approximately 11.5 grams of marijuana, a loaded Glock 19 semi-automatic handgun, and a loaded FN five-seveN semi-automatic handgun, according to the news release.
Patterson, who was driving the vehicle, is a convicted felon currently on active probation for previous weapons charges.
He was arrested and taken to the Iredell County Detention Center, where he was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and three misdemeanor drug charges.
Magistrate Hollar issued a $10,000 secured bond on the charges.
“This is a great example of the dedication our deputies show every day in removing illegal drugs and weapons from our streets,” Campbell said. “When convicted felons continue to disregard the law, our deputies remain committed to holding them accountable and ensuring the safety of our community.”
According to the ICSO, Patterson’s criminal history includes the following charges: felony discharge a weapon into an occupied property, felony possession of a stolen firearm, and felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Yet, he only had a $10,000 bond.
