FROM STAFF REPORTS
The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an ATV crash that claimed the life of a 5-year-old child on Sunday afternoon.
ICSO deputies and emergency responders were dispatched to the scene of an accident near the 200 block of Wood Bridge Road in western Iredell County about 4:45 p.m. Sunday, Sheriff Darren Campbell said.
A preliminary investigation indicates that Richard Olympic Freeman, 49, and the child were riding an all-terrain vehicle up an incline when it flipped over, Campbell said.
The child, whose name was not released by the ICSO, was pronounced dead after being transported to Iredell Memorial Hospital. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, the sheriff said.
Freeman was transported to Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Neither Freeman nor the child were wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, according to the sheriff.
Makes no sense why these so-called adults put children in danger. I know adults love to see their children having fun, but when you put children in danger it’s not okay.
Dear Sha, you are correct, BUT so called adults put all our lives in danger every day. While we can all sit back and make statements and judgments let’s not forget a family is mourning the loss of a child. We as humans have not been given the right to judge other people’s actions. God reserves that right for himself. One day you will stand before the Almighty and give an account for your actions, words and deeds.
Let us not sit in judgment, but be in prayer for this family that God will give this family peace beyond our mortal understanding.
While your head is bowed, you may also want to pray for all of us adults not to harm each other.
