FROM STAFF REPORTS
A Mooresville man died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound following a stand-off with Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Saturday.
Sheriff Darren Campbell identified the deceased individual as Dylan R. Maslon, 27.
An ICSO deputy who suffered a gunshot wound during the incident was transported to a local hospital. The deputy’s injuries were not life-threatening.
The incident began at 7:40 a.m. when local firefighters responded to Maslon’s home at 113 Northampton Drive in response to a 911 call from a family member who said Mason “was acting crazy,” the sherff said in a news release.
After Maslon brandished a knife at the fire personnel, they retreated and requested for deputies to respond to assist, Campbell said.
When the deputies arrived they heard yelling from inside the home. The deputies entered the residence and were met by Maslon, who shot at the deputies, according to the news release.
The deputies returned fire at the suspect and then sought cover, Campbell said. After the deputies attempted to communicate with the suspect, Maslon fired additional shots at them.
The ICSO Emergency Response Team was activated and responded to the location, along with Mooresville police officers who established a perimeter and secured the scene.
The suspect continued to shoot at law enforcement vehicles and deputies who attempted to get the suspect to stop and exit the home, according to the news release.
ICSO personnel deployed a robot, which located the suspect in an upstairs room. SERT members immediately entered the home and attempted to provide medical care, but the suspect was deceased, according to the sheriff.
Maslon had several pending criminal charges, including assault on a governmental official and felony breaking or entering to terrorize or injure. He was free on bond.
The N.C. State Bureau of Investigation was called to investigate the incident, which is standard protocol for the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.
Another example of bad judgement giving a bond after those charges.
Bunch of crap letting these convicts out.
