A Statesville woman was arrested on gun charges following a traffic stop by an Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputy.
Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of Tamyaa Altavia Holland, 22, of Buffalo Shoals Road, Statesville, in a news release.
Deputy J. Kent, who is assigned to the ICSO Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team, conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Salisbury Highway at Business Park Drive east of Statesville for a registration violation on February 28.
After speaking with the driver, the deputy searched the vehicle and located a loaded 9 mm handgun under the passenger seat, according to the news release. Holland, who was a passenger in the vehicle, stated that the firearm was hers, Campbell said.
Deputy Kent searched the serial number on the firearm in a criminal database and learned it had been reported stolen in Hickory, according to the news release.
Holland was arrested and taken to the Iredell County Detention Center, where she was charged with Felony Possession of a Stolen Firearm and Misdemeanor carting a Concealed Weapon.
Magistrate T. Thompson issued a $3,000 secured bond on these charges.
