FROM STAFF REPORTS

A northern Iredell County resident faces felony charges in connection with an attempted robbery and assault that occurred Saturday.

Erskine Morrison

Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of Erskine Allen Morrison, 39, of Millstone Drive, Statesville, in a news release Tuesday.

On Saturday, Deputy H. English responded to a residence off Jennings Road for a report of a breaking and entering and assault. The caller stated the suspect was no longer on the scene and had fled in a silver pickup truck, Campbell said.

After arriving at the scene, Deputy English began speaking with the victim, who had visible injuries consistent with being struck by a blunt object, according to the news release.

The victim identified Morrison as the assailant, Campbell said. After entering the home, Morrison wielded a weapon while demanding money from the victim, according to the news release.

Deputy English obtained a warrant charging Morrison with felony attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony breaking and entering to terrorize or injure, and felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. Morrison was then entered as “Wanted” by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

The ICSO Warrant Squad conducted surveillance and located Morrison. He was arrested and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center, where Magistrate Watkins issued a $20,000 secured bond on the charges.
