A Rowan County man faces multiple felony charges in connection with the theft of more than $15,000 worth of property from a storage unit in the Mooresville area following an investigation by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of Roman Fred Zabinski, 58, of Deer Haven Drive, China Grove, in a news release Monday.
ICSO deputies responded to a report of a breaking and entering at a storage unit at 1246 River Highway on December 10, Campbell said.
After arriving at the scene, deputies discovered that someone had broken into the unit and stolen over $15,000.00 worth of property, according to the news release.
The case was assigned to Detective T. Henderson of the Criminal Investigations Division for further investigation.
Detective Henderson conducted multiple interviews and reviewed surveillance footage from the area, leading to the identification of the suspect as Zabinski, the sheriff said.
Further investigation revealed that Zabinski had entered the storage unit on two separate occasions, according to the news release.
Detectives traveled to Zabinski’s residence in Rowan County, where they recovered most of the stolen property, Campbell said. The stolen items were returned to their rightful owner.
Arrest warrants were subsequently obtained charging Zabrinski with two counts of Felony Breaking and Entering; two counts of Felony Larceny after Breaking and Entering; two counts of Felony Conspiracy; one count of Felony Safecracking; and two counts of Misdemeanor First-Degree Trespass.
Zabinski was located and arrested by the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office on December 22. He was transported to the Rowan County Detention Center, where Magistrate B. Franklin issued a $20,000 secured bond.
The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office expressed its appreciation for the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office’s assistance in apprehending Zabinski.
According to the ICSO, Zabinski’s criminal record includes the following charges: Misdemeanor Larceny, four counts of Misdemeanor Common Law Uttering, Felony Larceny, Felony Identity Theft, 13 counts of Driving while License Revoked, five counts of Felony Breaking and Entering, and Felony Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance.
