A western Iredell County resident who was on probation faces new drug charges following his arrest by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team.
Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of Michael Shawn Duncan, 53, of Taylorsville Highway, Statesville, in a news release Wednesday afternoon.
ACE Team deputies received information on Monday that Duncan, who had three outstanding arrest warrants on probation violation charges, was operating a black Nissan Altima in the area of Taylorsville Highway.
The deputies responded to the area and located Duncan pulling into the Little Market Basket convenience store located at 3541 Taylorsville Highway, Campbell said.
Duncan was placed under arrest by the deputies. While searching Duncan, deputies found a methamphetamine pipe with drug residue in his left front pants pocket, according to the news release.
While searching the suspect’s vehicle, the deputies found 11.88 grams of methamphetamine, digital scales, marijuana, and nine dosage units of CBD gummies, Campbell said.
Duncan was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center, where he was charged with felony possession with intent to deliver, manufacture or sell methamphetamine; felony possession of methamphetamine, felony maintaining a vehicle for the use of a controlled substance, and three misdemeanor drug offenses.
Magistrate Callejas ordered Duncan held without bond until his initial court appearance on the drug charges. Magistrate Imes issued Duncan a $50,000 secured bond on the three probation violation charges.
According to the ICSO, Duncan’s criminal history includes the following charges misdemeanor larceny, misdemeanor resist a public officer, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, misdemeanor worthless check, two counts of misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanor possession of a schedule IV controlled substance, and felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance,
