FROM STAFF REPORTS

Two suspects have been identified in a robbery and assault that occurred in western Iredell County earlier this month.

Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a robbery at 706 Winterfield Road on Thursday, November 14, Sheriff Darren Campbell said in a news release.

The victim reported being attacked by two suspects, one of whom choked him until he lost consciousness, the sheriff said. After the victim regained consciousness, he found his belongings scattered and several items missing. The suspects fled in a white Toyota Camry, according to the news release.

Deputy Farra arrived at the scene and observed visible injuries, including redness around the victim’s neck and lacerations on his arms and legs, Campbell said. Iredell County Emergency Medical Services personnel treated the victim at the scene.

Corey Combs

The investigation was assigned to Detective Olson. As a result of investigative efforts, Corey David Combs, 45, of Cattlemans Road, Statesville, and Christopher Jordan Minier,  32, of Mount Ulla Highway, Mooresville, were identified as the suspects in the case.

Based on the evidence and statements provided, Detective Olson obtained warrants charging Combs and Minter with Felony Assault by Strangulation, Felony Kidnapping, Felony Common Law Robbery and Felony Conspiracy

On Tuesday, November 19, Deputy Greene arrested Combs, who attempted to disguise himself in a wig and hat. Marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found in his possession, leading to additional misdemeanor charges, Campbell said.

Further investigation revealed Combs had kidnapped another victim while evading arrest, forcing her to drive him to various locations under threat, according to the news release. After the victim escaped, Combs stole her vehicle and later fled to Alexander County, Campbell said.

Detective Olson obtained additional warrants charging Combs with Felony Kidnapping, Felony Larceny of a Motor Vehicle and Misdemeanor Communicating Threats
